The Little Black Dress!!

The famous LITTLE BLACK DRESS, famously known as LBD, is a popular invention by the most famous designer of all time CoCo Chanel. This was intended to be long-lasting, versatile, affordable, accessible to the widest market possible and in a neutral color.

The LBD is considered to be the most essential and a staple dress for every wardrobe by every woman and the fashion industry, who believe its a rule of fashion that every woman should own at least one pair of LBD which can be dressed up or dress down depending on the occasion. The style of the LBD ideally should be as simple as possible: a short black dress that is too clearly part of a trend would not qualify because it would soon appear dated.

There’s nothing more classic, sexy, and versatile than a little black dress. For brunch with friends, office meetings, girls nights out, or your next hot date.

In 1926 Gabrielle CoCo Chanel published a picture of a short, simple black dress in American Vogue. It was calf-length, straight and decorated only by a few diagonal lines. Vogue called it “Chanel’s Ford”. Like the Model T, the little black dress was simple and accessible for women of all social classes. Vogue also said that:  the LBD would become a sort of uniform for all women of taste.

The rise of Dior’s “New Look” in the post-war era returned the little black dress to its roots as a uniform and a symbol of the dangerous woman.

One of the most famous Little Black Dresses is the stunning dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961). Hepburn’s famous dress was designed by her frequent collaborator, Hubert de Givenchy. Although this dress only appears during the opening credits of the movie, it has become one of the most iconic movie costumes of all time and helped to cement the LBD’s place in history.

A few of my favourite ways of styling the LBD:

  1. Evening Glam: Heels + Clutch + Statement Necklace
  2. Summer fun: Tote + Beach hat + Beach flops
  3. Professional: Blazer + Heels + Structured Tote
  4. Chic: Biker Jacket + Combat boots + Cross body bag
  5. Bohemian: Kimono + Gladiators + Stone Jewelry
  6. Fall: Trench Coat + Riding Boots + Scarf

Hope you enjoyed this.

Off to think about my next post, till then Toodles from this side of Dubai.
